I think my greatest act of rebellion was divorcing my first husband. To the outside world, we had a solid relationship, didn't argue, everything seemed just dandy. But underneath it all, I was pretending to be someone I wasn't, and when I dared to let my true self emerge, she was met with immediate rejection. I knew I couldn't stay in that relationship as it was, and I couldn't ask him to change his values or who he was. Some might want to call it a mid-life crisis. It wasn't a crisis. It was an wakening.
Wow! That gave me tingles. Thanks for sharing Corinne. <3 That's got to be one of the hardest things...I often hear Gabor Matte talking about this. That we often choose relationship over authenticity because we are so deeply wired for connection and survival. For so many (maybe most??), the fear of losing connection with family and friends is stronger than the discomfort of suppressing their own authenticity/truth. I can imagine you had to work through a lot of internal and external noise at that time. Huge kudos! Look at you now!! [insert sassy emoji :)]
